#236: Leftover Love

Emily Resnick is the Commuter Student Services Senior Advisor and responsible for organizing “Commuter Appreciation Day” several times throughout the year. Today’s event was truly awesome and the people mentioned below deserve a huge shout out:

“Following this morning’s Commuter Appreciation Day we still had a lot of food left over from the event due to the inclement weather. I figured what better way to make use of the remaining items than to donate it to Hurricane Sandy efforts! I brought the items down to St. Joseph’s college, which is currently being used as a shelter. I cannot begin to tell you how ecstatic they were to have the donated food – ‘this will be everyone’s lunch today’, they mentioned. It really made me feel great to know that we could help and also made me thankful for everything that I have. I’m sure that everyone is doing what they can, but I just wanted to continue to encourage everyone to find way to help those in our community that were affected by the hurricane, and now the snow storm. For many, I think it will be a long time before things are ‘back to normal’.

“Thank you to my students, Jeff and Gennaro, as well as Karen Clemente from the Career Center for helping me package the items after the event. Also, thank you to Shannon and Mary Ann for helping find a shelter that would accept the donation. Finally, a very important thank you to Angela Agnello and the Faculty Student Association for sponsoring the food from Campus Catering for our event that resulted in the remains that were donated”.

What a great example of why Stony Brook is so awesome – the people like Emily who initiate an amazing idea, and the supportive students and colleagues who help see it through. So great!
